: Two days after a Bengaluru-based engineer was shot dead in Saran district of north Bihar, police are still groping in the dark to achieve a breakthrough in the case.

Krishna Mohan Tiwari, 42, was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne criminals at Devri village in Taraiya police station of the district, 74km north of state capital Patna, on Saturday.

Tiwari, who worked as a project manager with a private company in Bengaluru, had come to Kolhwa village in Marhaura police station area of Saran district on January 8.

He was scheduled to leave for Karnataka’s capital on Sunday, Taraiya police station SHO Ajay Kumar Singh said.

“Tiwari was returning to Kolhwa from his uncle’s house at a nearby village in Mashrakh police station area after attending the last rites of one of his relatives when two criminals shot at him from a close range. He was immediately taken to a private hospital where doctors declared him “brought dead”, the police officer said.

The cause of the murder could not be immediately known, the station house officer (SHO) said.

“Investigation is going on. An FIR has been registered against unknown persons with Taraiya police station on the basis of the statement by victim’s brother Munna Tiwari. No arrest has been made so far, although police have interrogated some persons,” he added.

Villagers said the dead techie was married twice.

“His estranged wife, from whom he has a 17-year-old daughter, lives at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. He has a son and a daughter from his second wife,” they said.
