Flight makes emergency landing as passenger suffers heart attack, dies

A Pune-Delhi SpiceJet flight made an emergency landing at Jaipur airport on Thursday evening after a passenger suffered cardiac arrest mid air. He, however, was declared dead after being taken to a nearby hospital.

An airport official said that the control room was informed about the medical emergency and they decided to land in Jaipur to provide medical aid to the passenger. An ambulance was rushed to the tarmac and the passenger Ramesh Chandra (70) and a woman accompanyi­ng him, were rushed to a nearby hospital.

“Spice Jet flight SG-184 that was going from Pune to Delhi landed at Jaipur airport at about 5.30 pm, after a passenger suffered heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance accompanie­d by a woman, presumably his wife, and a doctor,” Jaipur airport director J S Balhara said.

The patient was rushed to intensive care unit (ICU) at EHCC hospital, Jawahar circle.

“Chandra was declared brought dead,” EHCC, Jaipur, PRO Ashish Khunteta said.

The flight left for Delhi at 6.15 pm. The Spice Jet flight departs from Pune at 3.55 pm and reaches Delhi at 6 pm.

In January last year, a RajkotDelh­i Air India flight had made an emergency landing at Jaipur airport after a woman suffered cardiac arrest. She later died on way to the hospital.
