Rail services restored after Gondwana Express derails

Train traffic on the DelhiAgra route was restored at around 2.50am on Sunday after the parcel coach of Gondwana Express derailed near Farah (Deen Dayal Dham) railway station late on Saturday night, railway officials said.

A passenger received minor injuries in the incident, they said and add that senior railway officials rushed to the spot to supervise relief and restoratio­n work.

Spokesman of Agra division of the North Central Railway Sanchit Tyagi said traffic was restored on the route at 2.50am but the speed of trains was restricted to 20 kilometres per hour.

“The derailment took place at 10.20pm. An inquiry has been ordered to find the reason behind the derailment of parcel bogey which was next to the engine. An accident relief train besides a medical van reached the spot at 11pm,” he said.

“There was no impact on down track between Agra and Delhi and only the up track was affected. Trains are passing the route with caution,” Tyagi said.

Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP), Mathura, Swapnil Mamgain said all the passengers were safe and only one man sustained minor injury in the incident.

“We got informatio­n from Agra railway control room about the derailment of Gondwana Express. Ambulances were rushed to the spot. No casualty has been reported and one passenger sustained minor injuries,” he said.

A passenger Kamlesh Kumar said after the train crossed the signal near Farah railway station, a stone struck the window of the coach breaking the glass.

“There was smoke and dust in the coach and a passenger was hit on the head by a small stone. Panic gripped the passengers in the compartmen­t as the train stopped abruptly. All of us got down and came to know about the derailment of a bogey,” Kumar said.

Another passenger Makrand Mishra said they pulled emergency chain to stop the train when smoke and dust filled their compartmen­t.
