Report: Mueller seeks to question Trump

- Press Trust of India letters@hindustantimes.com

Special counsel Robert Mueller wants to question US President Donald Trump on his decisions to fire his national security adviser and the FBI chief, a media report said on Wednesday,

The report comes after it was revealed that Mueller interviewed attorney general Jeff Sessions in a probe into whether Russia colluded with the Trump campaign in the 2016 election.

Mueller has already interviewed several close aides and family members of Trump. He is also investigating whether Trump’s actions in office, including the ouster of national security adviser Michael Flynn and firing of James Comey, constituted obstruction of justice.

Flynn resigned last February following reports that he had misled vice president Mike Pence and other officials about his communications with the then Russian ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak.

Trump fired Comey in May 2016, days after he told Congress that he could not comment on whether there was evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. At the time, Comey was overseeing the Russia probe.

Citing two people familiar with Mueller’s plans, the Washington Post said Trump’s attorneys have worked out terms for the president’s interview with the Special counsel’s team which could be presented to him “as soon as next week”.
