Pollard becomes first to play 400 T20 games

: West Indies cricketer Kieron Pollard has become the first cricketer ever to have played 400 T20 matches.

The 30-year-old Pollard achieved this feat in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia, during the clash between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades on Monday.

Pollard, who plays for Adelaide Strikers in the BBL, has completed 400 T20 appearance­s playing for West Indies along with various other teams in T20 franchise leagues around the world.

Pollard made his first appearance in the shortest format in 2006.

The burly cricketer from Trinidad has been a regular member of the three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners in Mumbai Indians. But going into the auction, Mumbai did not retain Pollard but can be expected to use their ‘Right To Match’ (RTM) card to bring him back on board.

MUCH TRAVELLED Pollard has also played for domestic teams such as Barbados Tridents and Trinidad & Tobago, apart from other T20 teams such as Cape Cobras (South Africa), Dhaka Dynamites and Dhaka Gladiators (Bangladesh), Karachi Kings (Pakistan Super League), Somerset and South Australia among others.

In 400 matches so far, the righthande­d Pollard has scored 7,830 runs at 30.11 with a total of 39 half-centuries, which includes two in T20 Internatio­nals. He has also taken 243 wickets in the shortest format of cricket.

Pollard sits third in terms of highest run-scorers in T20 cricket, following his compatriot Chris Gayle with 11,068 runs at the top spot and former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum at the second with 8,769 runs.

He has played 101 ODIs and 56 T20Is for West Indies in his career.

In terms of most T20 matches played, Pollard is followed by Dwayne Bravo (372 matches) at the second spot and Gayle at the third, with 323 matches.
