Policeman sent to jail for opening fire on two in NCR

: A trainee sub-inspector allegedly opened fire at two men in Sector 122 area here following which he was sent to jail, with the police terming it a case of personal enmity and not an encounter.

Four policemen were suspended and their role in the case of shooting which took place last night was being probed, a senior police official said.

The victims’ kin had alleged that the police wanted to kill them in an encounter.

Senior Superinten­dent of Police Love Kumar told reporters that the shooting was a case of personal enmity.

“It was certainly not a case of an encounter. Prima facie, it seems to be a case of personal enmity and the police is verifying everything,” he said.

“The four policemen have been suspended. The service revolver of the sub-inspector who fired the shots was seized and he was sent to jail,” said Kumar.

He said initial investigat­ion revealed that the trainee sub-inspector knew the elder brother of the man he shot.

“The role of the four police personnels is being investigat­ed and they have been suspended,” said Kumar.

The SSP said he was informed that the trainee SI shot at the victims following an argument. An inquiry was immediatel­y ordered into the incident, he said.

The victim’s family members said the incident took at 10.30 pm when four people, including the victims, were returning from Behrampur. The police stopped them and shot at Jitendra Yadav and another man, Sunil, sustained a bullet injury on his leg.

They claimed that the police wanted to kill the victims in an encounter.

Yadav was admitted to a hospital and was in the ICU.
