Azhar Hossain aka Rubel, 22, was arrested on Sunday night by Shamserganj police in West Bengal on charges of involvement with Jamaat ul Mujahideen, Bangladesh (JMB) a banned terror outfit that was behind the Burdwan blast of October 2, 2014.

He was nabbed with a huge quantity of ammunition and IED explosives.

Hossain was the fourth person to be arrested in the past one week for alleged JMB links.

On January 30, Paigambar Sheikh, 24, and Jamirul Sheikh, 31, were arrested from Murshidabad and Siliguri. Both were nabbed in connection with the Bodh Gaya explosion on December 19. After quizzing them Shish Mohammad was arrested from Shamserganj allegedly for taking the lead role in planting IEDs at Bodh Gaya.

Investigating the Burdwan blast, National Investigation Agency (NIA) found out that JMB elements succeeded in establishing a network in at least four districts of Bengal (Nadia, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Burdwan) and started plotting subversive activities against the Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh.

“We arrested Hossain from Ratanpur village on Sunday night,” said Amit Kumar Bhakat, officer-in-charge of Shamsherganj police station. Police produced him in Jangipur court, seeking 14 days of custody.

Police has slapped IPC Sections 120 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 121 (waging, or attempting to wage war against the Government of India),122 (collecting arms with intention of waging war against the Government of India) and 123 (concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war) against Rubel.
