22yearold slaps Muslim man, forcing him to say Jai Shri Ram, held

A 22-year old was arrested in Sirohi on Wednesday for assaulting an old Muslim man and forcing him to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

The police said that the incident took place on February 3 but came to the fore on February 5 after a video of the incident, shot by the accused, was circulated on social media.

In the video, the accused, who identifies himself as Vinay Kumar Meena, is seen holding the old man by his beard, slapping him repeatedly and telling him to say Jai Shri Ram. The victim asks him why he was hitting him but the man continues to hit him.

“Parvardigaar bada hai, yaad rakh (Remember, the Almighty is great),” the victim is heard saying in the video. When he tries to say “Sarkaar jo hai … (The government …)”, the accused responds “Congress ki sarkaar hai teri … (Is your Congress government there … ) ” while hitting him.

DSP Om Prakash said that the victim was a homeless beggar from Maharashtra. “After the complaint was registered, we brought him from Palanpur in Gujarat and got his medical test done. There were no injuries according to the report, ” said Prakash.

The SP said the accused circulated another video wherein he says that he was drunk and there was no motive behind the act. The victim was also under the influence of an intoxicant, he added.

The accused, who left school after failing Class 10, used to work with a local DJ and is in police custody.
