PM’s wife escapes unhurt as car hits truck, one dead
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wife Jashodaben escaped unhurt when the car she was travelling in rammed into a truck in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district on Wednesday morning, police said.
Manmal, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at Chittorgarh police control room, said the accident happened when the truck ahead of the Innova applied brakes unexpectedly after which their car collided with the vehicle.
The official said Jashodaben’s relative Basant Bhai Modi died on the spot and three others, including the security guard, also suffered injuries.
The driver Puran Yadav, a resident of Jharkhand, was transporting iron rods in the truck from Jamshedpur to Ahmedabad. He fled the spot but was later arrested by the police, the ASI said.
Rama Ram, a constable at Parsoli police station, said that the incident occurred on National Highway 27, some 40km from Chittorgarh city, between 9:30-10:00am.
Jashodaben and others were rushed to Rajkiya Sawariya Chikitsalaya in Chittorgarh.
“Jashodaben is completely fine. She did not suffer any injuries. A lady relative of hers and the security guard have sustained head injuries and we are referring them to Udaipur,” Dr Madhup Baxi, the principal medical officer at Rajkiya Sawariya Chikitsalaya, said. He added there was a young girl in the car who suffered minor injuries and received stitches.
