days after two Kashmiri students were beaten up by a group of people in Haryana’s Mahendragarh district, another student from Kashmir was attacked at a private university at Mullana, 50 km from Ambala.

The incident occurred at Maharishi Markandeshwar University on Wednesday.

Mullana police station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Kumar and university security in charge Manbir Singh said the complainant, Mudasir Ahmed, who is studying for a bachelor’s degree in radiology, and Krishan Kumar, a second year bachelor of pharmacy student, had an argument before he beat him up.

Kumar was placed under suspension soon after the altercation.

Mudasir, who hails from Sopore, said Kumar used to intimidate him and pass remarks about Kashmiris to which he objected. “On Wednesday afternoon, he sought to meet me but when I met him at the market near the university, he, along with some outsiders, slapped and beat me up,” Mudasir said.

He, however, said he did not want any police case and was satisfied with the action taken by the university authorities. The police said both students had reached a compromise.

Asked about the outsiders who beat up Mudasir, the SHO said that the police were trying to ascertain whether they were brought by the accused or had gathered there after the altercation.

Last week, two students from Kashmir, Aftab Ahmad and Amjad Ali, both students of MSc, geography, at Central University of Haryana at Mahendragarh were beaten up by a group of people when they were returning from a mosque. Three people were arrested.
