Demanding a law to protect lawyers, exemption of toll and residential scheme, the state Congress’ law and human rights cell on Sunday threatened to stage protests and demonstrations, if the demands are not met.

Cell president Susheel Sharma said a 10-point memorandum has been submitted to the chief minister, urging that the demands be included in the state budget.

“We have demanded ₹ 20 crore financial assistance for the Rajasthan advocate welfare fund, which will increase from ₹ 2.50 lakh to ₹5 lakh to family members on demise of an advocate and a grant of ₹ 2.50 lakh for serious illness instead of ₹1 lakh,” he said.

The previous Congress government had provided a financial allocation of ₹ 11 crore for the welfare fund and for setting up a library in the courts across the state, he said.

Besides, the previous government also provided land for guest houses in Jaipur and Jodhpur, and allocated ₹ 1 crore for its construction.

He further said that 50% advocates were appointed in the Rajasthan State Consumer Forum, administrative improvement or revenue courts by constituting the members of the Rajasthan State Revenue Judicial Services.

At present, only administrative officials who have no legal knowledge, are appointed in revenue courts and in view of this, advocates should be appointed in revenue courts, the sub-divisional magistrate court, revenue appellate authority and revenue board, he said.

Advocates should be exempted from toll taxes as they have to move for work for different courts, including high courts, Supreme Court and appellate courts, he said.
