3-day campaign in Jaipur to screen people with swine flu symptoms

The Rajasthan health department will launch a threeday awareness campaign from Monday to about seasonal diseases along with door-to-door screening of people with suspected symptoms of the ailments, said state health minister Kali Charan Saraf.

In view of the increase in number of cases of swine flu and other seasonal diseases, a three-day campaign--‘Swasthya Dal Aapke Dwar’ (health team at your doorstep)--will be launched, he said.

“The campaign will be conducted by the health department with the help of district administra­tion and Jaipur Municipal Corporatio­n across the city from Monday.”

According to the integrated disease surveillan­ce programme website, the total number cases of H1N1 influenza between January 1 and February 18 across the country was 1,154, out of which 969 cases were from Rajasthan and similarly out of the total 117 deaths across the country, 86 were reported from Rajasthan.

State health department figures show that between January 1 and February 23, a total of 1,021 people tested positive for the H1N1 virus and 92 people have succumbed to the viral infection.

Elaboratin­g about the campaign, Saraf said the city will be divided into different sections where nursing students will screen people by going door-todoor. Throat swabs sample of people with the symptoms of the viral infection will collected and sent for testing and necessary treatment will be given, he said.

State additional chief secretary (medical and health) Veenu Gupta held a meeting of health officials, principals of private and government-run nursing colleges in Jaipur, students of general nursing and midwifery and auxiliary nurse midwifery training centres at state health directorat­e in the city.

She said nursing students along with health personnel will conduct door-to-door screening in the 92 wards in rural and urban areas of Jaipur district and will provide necessary advice.

The medical teams lead by doctors will screen people for H1N1 virus, malaria, dengue and other seasonal diseases, she said, adding that the teams will also ensure that anti-larval measures are carried by the civic bodies in their presence.

The district administra­tion, JMC, healthcare personnel and nursing students will work as a team, Gupta said.

Zonal officers have been appointed for monitoring the nine zones in Jaipur district and assistant registrar of the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Shashikant Sharma will help in monitoring the activities at the wards.

On Thursday, Saraf reviewed the situation of seasonal diseases, especially swine flu at his office in assembly and constitute­d a statelevel committee.
