Bollywood actor Sridevi’s body is likely to reach Mumbai on Tuesday night after UAE authorities closed the investigation into her death in a Dubai hotel room, saying she died of accidental drowning in a bathtub.
The Dubai authorities had held the 54-year-old superstar’s body since Saturday night, pending the results of the post-mortem investigation.
According to media reports in the UAE, the family has got custody of the body and taken it for embalming. The body was then taken to the airport where a chartered flight was waiting to carry it home.
The Dubai Media Office, the official Twitter handle of the media office of the government, said in a series of tweets that the decision to release the body was taken after thorough investigation.
“Dubai Public Prosecution stressed that all regular procedures followed in such cases have been completed. As per the forensic report, the death of the Indian actress occurred due to accidental drowning following

loss of consciousness. The case has now been closed,” it said.
No foul play was apparently suspected by the investigators, although unconfirmed reports in the UAE said she was under the influence of alcohol and had injury marks on her head, suggesting she fell into the bathtub in the washroom.
Dubai daily Gulf News reported that Sridevi’s producer-husband Boney Kapoor was called to the Bur Dubai police station for questioning and was allowed to go to his hotel after the procedure.
Actor Arjun Kapoor, the 32-year-old step-son of Sridevi, on Tuesday flew to Dubai to “be with his father at the hotel”, said a source who doesn’t want to be named.
Sridevi was in Dubai to attend nephew’s Mohit Marwah’s wedding, and had stayed back after the ceremony. Husband Kapoor had flown back to Mumbai with their younger daughter Khushi, but he returned to Dubai to surprise her, according to Khaleej
