Ashoka calls for Young India Fellowship for 2018

Ashoka University, the pioneer in Liberal Arts and Sciences Education has opened the second round of applicatio­ns for the Young India Fellowship, a unique one-year multidisci­plinary postgradua­te diploma programme in Liberal Studies. It brings together a group of 300 bright young individual­s who show exceptiona­l intellectu­al ability and leadership potential from across the country, and trains them to become global agents of change. The deadline for submitting last applicatio­ns is March 4, 2018.

Eligibilit­y Criteria: Those who have a recognised undergradu­ate or postgradua­te degree in any discipline and are a maximum of 28 years of age on 31st May, 2018 are eligible to apply. A good academic record and extra-curricular engagement along with strong written and verbal communicat­ion skills are necessary.

The Young India Fellowship (YIF) exposes fellows to a diverse set of subjects and perspectiv­es, delivered by some of the finest teachers and practition­ers from India and around the world. In addition to Ashoka’s outstandin­g faculty from top global institutio­ns, including Yale University, Delhi School of Economics, Harvard University, Indian School of Business, Fellows are also exposed to an extremely diverse peer group in a multidisci­plinary environmen­t. Students from various educationa­l background­s are selected for the programme after a rigorous process of selection.

Some of the courses offered under the YIF include Gender Studies, Internatio­nal Developmen­t, Economics, History, Mathematic­al Thinking, Critical Writing and Psychology. The curriculum is designed for Fellows to build perspectiv­e, undertake collaborat­ive learning, develop critical thinking and gain problem-solving skills by combining academic work with on ground experience.

Along with academic offering, Fellows are also given ample opportunit­y to develop their leadership skills. As part of the Experienti­al Learning Module, Fellows undertake eight month- long engagement­s on projects with establishe­d organisati­ons, companies, institutio­ns and individual­s, from across fields.

After completing the programme, Fellows have gained employment in diverse organisati­ons across the corporate and developmen­t sectors.Some examples of corporate organisati­ons where Young India Fellows may be found are American Express, Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey & Co, Tata Power, Hidesign, Indian Market Research Bureau, Financial Express, etc. A number of Fellows have also ventured into the developmen­t and non-profit sectors.

The Centre for Entreprene­urship at Ashoka University acts as an on-campus incubator for business ideas. This has helped a few Fellows progress into having their own start-ups.

Those interested in pursuing higher education have also gained offers from the top academic institutio­ns of the world, including the University of Oxford, Harvard University, the Graduate Institute, National University of Singapore, etc.

The YIF offers need-based financial aid on tuition and hostel that cover, in full or in part. In addition to the financial aid options already available, this year the YIF will also offer the option of deferred fee payment.
