Tips on how to avoid last minute studying

essential: Organizing time is inevitably the key here. Planning and preparing throughout the year does not mean studying 24x7! On the contrary, it involves managing your time effectively, with a time table ensuring not just study hours but also time for your routine, as well as play, leisure or outdoor activity. Keeping in mind all these factors can ensure that the timetable does not stay restricted only to the piece of paper but actually gets implemented in action as well.

4.Avoid procrastination: We all do tend to feel lazy or procrastinate at times, and this is one of the main reasons which contributes to a last-minute flurry. However, it is important for you to be able to identify your excuses, work on easier tasks, and commit yourself to finish a task. It can be helpful to break large tasks into smaller units, take breaks to avoid wearing down, and eliminate distractions. It is okay for you to seek help when the task seems difficult, and do not forget to reward yourself as well!

5.Revise, revise and revise:

In fact, research shows that the most effective regime to help maximize retention of information is to study the material on the first, second, seventh, fifteenth and thirtieth day. Yes, a total of five revisions, which is actually not such a humungous task as it sounds, considering that the first day is when the topic is taught in the class, the second when you read it for the next day for your notes or assignments, then a couple of revisions in a week and fortnight respectively, and finally a last revision at the time of the approaching exam. You would not need a last-minute revision at all!

6.Use time-saving tactics:

As most of the times the same topic needs to be revised more than once, it would be beneficial if you would highlight specific words or phrases, that would help you save time when you revise the same topic again. Highlighting is more effective than underlining as it helps form visual memories. The headine of the Feb 21 story should have read ‘TEDx event at GLIM.’ The error is regretted.
