KOLKATA: BJPRSS is trying to trigger riots in Bengal by purposely throwing meats in places of worship. The police force must step up vigil and also involve the common people. MAMATA BANERJEE, West Bengal chief minister and TMC president

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee came up with the new war cry “Target Lal Quila” to counter BJP’s slogan “Target Bangla” in the backdrop of the victory of the saffron forces in Tripura, drawing curtains on the 25-year Left rule there.

“Some are saying that their next target is Bangla (West Bengal). If that is the case then our target is Delhi’s Lal Quila. So lets march to Delhi,” the Trinamool Congress chief said at a public rally in Purulia district Monday.

Her comment came against the backdrop of BJP president Amit Shah’s statement immediately after the Tripura election results that the BJP’s “golden era” will be inaugurated only after it wins power in West Bengal, Kerala and Odisha.

Earlier, the Bengal CM had discussed the possibility of a ‘federal front’ with leaders of Congress, Samajwadi Party, Biju Janata Dal, Rashtriya Janata Dal. She even offered to join hands with her arch rivals, the Left, to join hands with her.

Stepping up her anti-saffron rhetoric shortly before the public rally in Purulia, Banerjee said in Durgapur that the police should give awards and also offer jobs to anyone who helps them foil attempts to trigger communal riots in the state.

“I have information that BJPRSS is trying to trigger riots in Bengal by purposely throwing meats in places of worship. The police must step up vigil and also involve the common people. If anyone informs the police about any conspiracy and helps foil it, he or she will be given a cash reward of ~1,000,” she said.

“If necessary even government jobs will be offered to them depending on the gravity of the conspiracy,” the CM added.

Reacting to the statements, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said, “None from BJP and RSS is involved in acts of disturbing communal harmony. If anybody is caught, the government certainly has the right to punish.”
