: A two-day national conference on Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases (PIDCON) will be organised in Jaipur beginning Saturday.
Organising secretary Dr Ashok Gupta, professor paediatrics and head rare diseases, superintendent of Sir Padampat Mother and Child Health Institute (JK Lone Hospital), Jaipur, on Friday, said that health minister Kali Charan Saraf and SMS Medical College principal and controller, Dr US Agarwal, will inaugurate the conference.
Gupta said that the PIDCON is being organised by Indian Society of Primary Immune Deficiency (PID) in collaboration with the Foundation for Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases, USA, and SPMCHI, SMS Medical College, Jaipur.
The objectives of the meeting is to increase awareness in the field of PIDs and advocate for patient care, encourage scientific collaboration between members and facilitate research and medical care for these patients in India, said Dr Gupta.
Primary Immunodeficiency has been a neglected specialty owing primarily to the lack of awareness in medical and other scientific community. The potential of this field is immense as these diseases can be present at any age group and in a multitude of clinical manifestations, all of which may be missed by treating team, unless looked into specifically.
