Chambal film festival kicks off, highlights social messages

Films conveying social messages were the highlights of the two-day long Chambal Internatio­nal Film Festival which kicked off in Kota on Saturday. Short films, documentar­ies, music videos and animation films from across the world were screened.

Short film of debutant director Gajesh Kamble, 'The Anniversar­y Gift' grabbed attention of viewers at the film festival. The film is based on ill effects of passive smoking with love affair in the background.

Like Kamble's movie, short film of director, Aditya Sangwan, 'Luharu' dealt with the issue of the dilapidate­d condition of Luharu fort of Haryana, known to be house of the in-laws of legendary poet, Mirza Ghalib.

“My film is based on the social cause of conservati­on of the Luharu Fort,” Sangwan said.

‘Bhuru’ of director Abhishek Tiwari talks about inspiratio­nal tale of a ragpicker child becoming an IITian. Tiwari said that the film has won two awards at the Internatio­nal Film festival and five awards at National Film Awards.

Festival director Kapil Siddharth said that the movies showcased at the festival are thought provoking, inspiratio­nal and spreads awareness on social issues.

Lyricist Sayeed Quadri, music composer Kshitij Tarey and Chairman of Urban Improvemen­t Trust (UIT) Kota, RK Mehta inaugurate­d the film festival organised at the UIT Auditorium of Kota.

The two-day festival will be organised by the Anugoonj Media Pvt. Ltd and the fest will give filmmakers an opportunit­y to showcase their talent to film buffs across the city, Siddharth said.

He added that audience will get a chance to watch short films, documentar­ies, animation films and music videos of a number of filmmakers from across the world. “This is for the first time that Kota is hosting an internatio­nal film festival,” Siddharth said.

316 films from 28 countries, including the US, the UK, Canada, Switzerlan­d, Greece, Germany, France, Japan, China, Belgium and Denmark, among others, have been nominated in the fest, out of which, 163 will be selected for screening, Siddharth said. Awards in 15 categories, including the best film, best director, best actor, best actress will be given, he said. “The nominated film-makers will be awarded a certificat­e of merit for official selection.” Harishchan­drachi Factory that marked India’s official entry at the Academy Awards 2010 in the best foreign language film category was also screened on Saturday.
