30 check dams to be constructed in MHTR
KOTA: THE FOREST DEPARTMENT IS THE EXECUTIVE AGENCY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND HAVE BEEN ASKED TO COMPLETE THE WORK WITHIN FOUR MONTHS
Around 30 check dams (anicuts) will be constructed under NREGS in the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (MHTR) of Kota for the animals.
The Kota Zila Parishad has allocated around Rs 22 lakh to the forest department for construction of check dams.
The chief executive officer of the Kota Zila Parishad RD Meena said that around 30 loose stone check dams are being constructed in the gram panchayat Dolya.
He said that 30 important sites inside MHTR, including Kheribeet, Kadap Ki Khaal, Dhuniya Pagdandi, Kalakot, Taarsaikudi, Kesra Khaal, Paadajhar and others have been selected for construction of check dams.
He said that the forest department is the executive agency for the construction and have been asked to complete the work within 4 months.
He further added that such check dams will ensure drinking water for the wildlife of MHTR.
He said that these check dams will also prevent soil erosion and ensure forest conservation.
Deputy conservator of forest, MHTR, Kota, T Mohanraj said that the check dam construction is a part of the soil conservation work in the forest area.
MHTR spans across 759.99 square kilometre including core area of around 417.17 square km and buffer area of around 342.82 square km.
