30 check dams to be constructe­d in MHTR

KOTA: THE FOREST DEPARTMENT IS THE EXECUTIVE AGENCY FOR THE CONSTRUCTI­ON AND HAVE BEEN ASKED TO COMPLETE THE WORK WITHIN FOUR MONTHS

Around 30 check dams (anicuts) will be constructe­d under NREGS in the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (MHTR) of Kota for the animals.

The Kota Zila Parishad has allocated around Rs 22 lakh to the forest department for constructi­on of check dams.

The chief executive officer of the Kota Zila Parishad RD Meena said that around 30 loose stone check dams are being constructe­d in the gram panchayat Dolya.

He said that 30 important sites inside MHTR, including Kheribeet, Kadap Ki Khaal, Dhuniya Pagdandi, Kalakot, Taarsaikud­i, Kesra Khaal, Paadajhar and others have been selected for constructi­on of check dams.

He said that the forest department is the executive agency for the constructi­on and have been asked to complete the work within 4 months.

He further added that such check dams will ensure drinking water for the wildlife of MHTR.

He said that these check dams will also prevent soil erosion and ensure forest conservati­on.

Deputy conservato­r of forest, MHTR, Kota, T Mohanraj said that the check dam constructi­on is a part of the soil conservati­on work in the forest area.

MHTR spans across 759.99 square kilometre including core area of around 417.17 square km and buffer area of around 342.82 square km.
