ENGLISH PAPER A CAKEWALK, SAY CLASS 10 CBSE STUDENTS

- HT Correspondent letters@hindustantimes.com

Most of the class 10 students of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), who wrote their English papers on Monday said that the paper was fairly easy for them.

The Class 10 exams began on March 6 and will go on till April 2. It is after a gap of seven years that all Class 10 board exams have been made mandatory, as the exams were optional until last year.

Manomhan Singh, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 2, Jaipur, said the paper was easy. “It wasn’t lengthy either,” said Singh. Kavya Khemka of Maharani Gayatri Devi (MGD) Girls’ School seconded Singh’s view. “The paper was easy and I was comfortably able to complete it in time,” she said.

Aditi Jain, of the same school as Khemka, too found the paper very easy. However, another student said that he found one section of the paper comparatively tough. “Although the paper was easy, I found the C section (literature) slightly tough, when compared with other two sections of the paper,” said Vinayak Sharma of Jayshree Periwal High School.

Other students too, whom HT spoke to, affirmed that the paper was largely easy.

Suniti Sharma, principal of MGD Girls’ School, said that the paper was quite straightforward and most of the students finished it well before time.

“There were a lot of internal choices in the questions. The paper was easy perhaps to ensure that students do not fail as there is no retest in English,” said Sharma.

She said the paper could have been made easy keeping in mind the fact that the boards have been made mandatory after seven years. Since 2010-11, the class 10 students were being assessed by a Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation system.
