2 Telangana Cong MLAs disqualified, 11 suspended for ‘unruly behaviour’
The Telangana assembly on Tuesday disqualified two Congress MLAs and suspended 11 others for the rest of the budget session following their “unruly behaviour” in the House on Monday.
While Nalgonda MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy hurled a headphone at the podium during governor ESL Narasimhan’s address, injuring legislative council chairman K Swamy Goud, Alampur MLA SA Sampath Kumar had allegedly abetted his colleague to attack the governor. Both stand disqualified with immediate effect.
This is the first session of Telangana assembly to be held after the formation of the state in 2014.
Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary also announced the suspension of 11 MLAs — K Jana Reddy, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, J Geetha Reddy, DK Aruna, Msdhava Reddy, Ramamohan Reddy, Bhatti Vikramarka, Chinna Reddy, Vamsichand Reddy and Jeevan Reddy.
The decision followed a motion moved by minister for legislative affairs T Harish Rao under provisions of clause 3 of Article 194 of the Constitution.
The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen supported the action. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and AIMIM’s floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi condemned the Congress members’ behaviour.
BJP floor leader G Kishen Reddy, however, objected to the suspension, saying the Speaker should have consulted all parties before moving the motion.
Meanwhile, in the legislative council, too, six Congress members — Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, Akula Lalitha, Shabbir Ali, Damodar Reddy, P Sudhakar Reddy and Santosh — were suspended for the remaining period of the ongoing session.
The suspended MLAs and MLCs staged a dharna protesting the “unilateral decision of the government” to suspend them without giving them a chance to explain their version.
