A legislator of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assaulted a toll booth worker after the barrier allegedly hit his car in Rajasthan’s Banswara district.

Though the MLA, Jeetmal Khant, admitted to slapping the booth worker, police said there was no complaint over the incident and no case has been registered.

The incident happened on Friday afternoon at the Badaliya toll booth on the BanswaraUdaipur road.

In a purported CCTV video of the incident, the MLA from Garhi constituency, is seen pulling the booth worker’s hair and slapping him in a cabin of the toll gate. The MLA’s aide is also seen hitting the worker. HT could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

The MLA admitted that he slapped the booth worker but said it was the worker’s fault.

“I was returning from Bhimpur village in the afternoon when we stopped at the toll. I lowered the window glass and told him that I am an MLA and asked him to raise the barrier,” said Khant.

He added that just as his car was crossing the barrier, the booth worker brought down the boom barrier on the rear of his car with “a bang”.

“I accept that I slapped him but was it not his fault? He’s committing such a mistake in broad daylight. In addition, he misbehaved with me. I had to

tell him twice that I was an MLA and he should open the toll gate,” said the MLA.

The legislator was travelling in a rented car as his own official car had been sent elsewhere, he added. He was accompanied by an aide and a driver. The police have not registered any case in the matter so far.

“The booth management on Friday said that nothing of the sort happened. On Saturday, they said that the booth worker was at fault for bringing down the barrier on the legislator’s car and he has been fired,” said Kalu Ram Rawat, Banswara superintendent of police (SP).

“We are not sure of the authenticity of the video and the aggrieved party has not lodged any complaint,” he added.

Devendra Singh, caretaker of the toll booth, said no such incident happened at the booth.
