Dhanbad police on Thursday arrested two top Maoists commanders, including Prabhakar alias Rajesh Tuddu and his wife Mugli Murmu. While Prabhakar carried reward of ₹25 lakh, his wife carried reward of ₹15 lakh on their head.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) MR Chothe paraded the two Maoists before the mediapersons in his office in presence of senior police officers on Thursday.

The SSP said the couple was picked from an IVF centre at City centre on Wednesday evening while Mugli alias Anjali was undergoing treatment for infertility at the centre. The two were picked by police personnel in civvies and were taken to a safe location for interrogation following a tip off about their presence in the hospital.

“The two were involved in 22 incidents of Maoists’ violence in Saranda forest and its surrounding areas. Prabhakar alias Rajesh Tuddu, son of Mangal Murmu, is originally from Jitpur village under Maniadih police station of Dhanbad and had joined the outfit in 1991-92. He was active in Dhanbad and Girdih before he was shifted to Bundu in 1997 for organising the party,” Chothe said. “He successfully organised CPI (Maoists) in Saranda and is claimed to be one of the founder members of the outfit in Saranda forest. He is also member of Jharkhand-Bihar Special Area Committee (SAC). He carried reward of ₹25 lakh,” he added.

Also known as Phulchand and Rajesh Santhal, he married Sunita in 2006. Sunita, who carried several aliases including Mougli, Santoshi and Ankita, was one of the most wanted woman Maoists in Saranda area.

Sunita is resident of Goladabar village under Pirtand police station of Giridih district and is daughter of Kundan Murmu. She had been active member of Nari Mukti Sangathan (NMS), the frontal organisation of the CPI (Maoists) and is state committee member too.
