India successfully test fires BrahMos missile
The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile with an indigenous seeker, which was jointly developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and BrahMos Aerospace, was successfully test fired at the Pokhran test range in Rajasthan on Thursday.
“Formidable Supersonic Cruise Missile BrahMos was successfully flight tested at 8:42 AM today at Pokhran test range, Rajasthan. The precision strike weapon with Indian-made seeker flew in its designated trajectory and hit the target with pin-point accuracy,” defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Twitter.
The test was conducted by a team of DRDO and BrahMos scientists along with the Indian Army.
The precision strike weapon flew in its designated trajectory and hit the preset target with pin-point accuracy. A high-level team led by DRDO secretary Dr S Christopher, scientific adviser to the defence minister Dr G Satheesh Reddy, and director general BrahMos Dr Sudhir Mishra was present during the trial.
The Seeker was developed by a joint team of DRDO and BrahMos scientists. Project director V Prameela and programme director Dr Dashrath Ram led the effort for its development of the indigenous seeker.
Senior officials from the Indian Army and Air Force also witnessed the successful launch of the tactical weapon.
The test firing comes three months after the Brahmos cruise missile was successfully test fired for the first time from the Indian Air Force’s frontline Sukhoi-30 MKI combat jet.
