A 22-year-old woman from Barmer has accused a man of forging documents to show her as his wife in government records, though she never married the man.

In her written complaint to the city police, the woman alleged that Nijam Khan, son of Fota Khan, a resident of Sahdad Ka Paar village in Barmer district, Rajasthan, had enrolled her name as his wife in the ration card, Bhamashah card, the national job guarantee scheme and other government records.

According to the woman’s complaint, around six years ago, when she was a minor and studying, the family members of Nijam Khan had approached her family with a marriage proposal. However, her family had refused the proposal.

About a year ago, her parents were informed by some relatives, who live at Sahdad Ka Paar village, that their daughter was introduced as Nijam Khan’s wife in various welfare schemes of the government.

The relatives were convinced after they saw the woman’s name as the applicant in the survey list for PM Awas Yojana, the victim stated.

“When my family approached the family of Nijam Khan over the issue, instead of feeling shame, they threatened my family member to marry me with Nijam Khan. They also built up social pressure on my family,” stated the complainant.

The woman also alleged police inaction in the matter. “The police are not taking action even after three months because a relative of Nijam Khan is in the same department,” she alleged.

Amar Singh Ratnu, the incharge of Barmer city police station, said that they have registered a case in the matter and sent the documents for forensic examination and awaiting the report, after which action would be taken accordingly.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family has also filed a civil suit in a competent court for annulment of all documents and action against the culprits.
