Congress president Sachin Pilot on Monday said that his party men will criticise their rivals, give strong rebuttals to them, but with dignity. Pilot was speaking at the national convention ‘Inquilab’ of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of Congress.

“Our rivals use all kinds of words. What kind of example are they setting before the youth? Be it Congress or NSUI, we have to maintain the level of politics. Our traditions and culture have been a significant part of our history,” said Pilot.

He also urged the NSUI cadre to work hard to make Rahul Gandhi the PM in 2019. “In the recent by-elections, the chief minister camped in the constituencies with her ministers and used all her might and clout. But in all the 17 Vidhan Sabha constituencies the Congress won,” said Pilot.

Attacking BJP governments in the state and at the centre, Pilot said that their policies of cuts in education budgets and scholarships, and discrimination in education, will not help.

Addressing the gathering, former health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad recounted the important role played by students in the freedom struggle starting from 1905. He also discussed how the student – spurred by Mahatma Gandhi’s call to join the freedom struggle – participated in the protests besides managing their studies.

All India Congress Committee’s secretary Avinash Pandey dilated on how the student movement has contributed towards the development of the country.
