BJP legislator Dharmpal Chaudhary passes away

: Dharmpal Chaudhary, BJP MLA from Mundawar in Alwar district, passed away on Thursday after a prolonged period of illness.

Chaudhary, 64, is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.

He is the fourth lawmaker and sixth BJP leader to have died since last year.

Chaudhary had been unwell since some time and was admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for treatment of liver infection. He was also planning to get a liver transplant but doctors had advised him to get treatment first.

Chaudhary, a Jat leader, was popular among farmers. His demise will adversely affect BJP’s chances among the influentia­l the Jat community in the coming assembly elections.

Chaudhary was cremated with full government honour in his native village, Jat Behror in Alwar district.

Chief minister Vasundhra Raje reached Jat Behror to pay regards to the departed leader. She said that it was a personal

loss for the entire BJP family.

Chaudhary’s elder son, Amit Chaudhary lit the funeral pyre. Earlier, a guard of honour was given by Alwar police. Cabinet ministers, MLAs of all parties and political leaders were also present. A large number of followers were present and chanted slogans of ‘long live Dharampal Chaudhary‘.

Chaudhary joined politics in 1998 when fought election for Rajasthan assembly from Mundawar as an independen­t candidate and came in second spot. Later he joined the BJP and became MLA from Mundawar in 2000 to 2003. He was also the MLA from 2008 to 2013 but lost in 2013 election to the Congress candidate.
