: A 41-year-old teacher from West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district has been booked for allegedly raping two Class 4 students of the primary school where he taught.

The teacher is on the run after two complaints were lodged against him with Karnajora police outpost on Friday night, police said.

Medical tests have been conducted on both the children, and though the report is awaited, police officers said the examination confirmed rape .

North Dinajpur’s superintendent of police (SP), Shyam Singh, wasn’t available for comment. However, speaking on the condition of anonymity, an officer of the outpost, where the complaint was registered, said: “We sent both the girls to Raiganj Super Specialty Hospital today for medical examinations. The preliminary report has confirmed that both the girls were violated. We are waiting for the detailed report. The teacher has been booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and POCSO Act.”

“The accused used to stay in a rented house at Chanditala in the area but it is locked since Friday evening. We are raiding some places to nab him,” said the officer.

The teacher allegedly used to rape the girls inside the school premises when no one was around.

“Once he took both of them to Bamua bridge and threatened to push them off if they revealed the crime to anyone,” said the mother of one of the survivors.

The mother of one of the girls said that her son, who studied in the same school, told her about the crime after which she asked her daughter about it.

“I quizzed my daughter but she wasn’t ready to tell me anything. But on Friday, she told me that the teacher has raped her and another student at least four times in two months,” she said.
