Kin of Class 1 girl claims rape attempt in school

:Parents of a seven-yearold Class 1 student in Raipur have alleged that someone tried to rape her in school.

In their complaint to the police, the parents said their child returned crying from school on Thursday and she was not wearing her undergarment. It was her first day in the school, according to the parents.

According to the complaint, the child said a “bhaiyya” (brother) in uniform took her to the bathroom and sexually abused her.

“We have registered first information report (FIR) under sections of the Indian Penal Code, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” Raipur superintendent of police Amresh Mishra said on Saturday.

“We are examining CCTV footage of the school,” the police official added.

The SP said the preliminary medical report suggested the girl had no external injuries. “We are investigating the case from all angles,” he added.

The school’s authorities denied that the child was sexually harassed on the institute’s premises.

The state commission for protection of child rights has constituted a two-member commission to investigate the case.
