A police officer’s car was hit by a sand mafia’s tractortrolley at around 4:30 am in Dholpur on Sunday.

Circle officer of Bari, Dholpur, Ram Chandra Chaudhary, was referred to a hospital in Agra where his condition was said to be critical.

The driver of the tractor-trolley, which was carrying illegal river sand, rammed into Chaudhary’s four-wheeler near Bijoli village, when he was going for the duty of chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who was visiting Karauli on Sunday morning.

Injured Chaudhary and his driver Ashok Kumar were rushed to the district hospital, but Chaudhary was later referred to a hospital in Agra owing to his critical condition. Superintendent of police Rajesh Singh, district collector Shuchi Tyagi and chief minister’s house secretary Ratan Lal Yogi visited the officer in the hospital.

Chaudhary was deployed at the helipad in police lines for Raje’s security. The chief minister was in Dholpur for the last three days and left for Karauli at 6 am on Sunday.

The sand mafia were carrying river sand from Chambal by tractor-trolleys and deliberately attacked Chaudhary’s vehicle to flee the police. Rajesh Singh said police teams were formed to arrest the accused. On March 29, sand smugglers had hit the bike of a police constable Narendra Singh deployed at housing board police outposts.
