Two men allegedly killed their 60-year-old father after he reportedly refused to transfer a plot of land in their name, police said Monday. The incident took place in Jaipur’s Chomu area Sunday evening.

Mahesh Kumar (26) and Vijay Kumar (24) were arrested from Ajeetgarh in Sikar where they had taken the body of Puranmal (60) for cremation.

Police took the action after being alerted by the Guptas’ neighbours. The brothers had been pressuring their father to transfer his 85-sqm plot in Harota village in their name, said Jitendra Singh, station house officer (SHO), Chomu. The duo had an altercation with Puranmal Saturday night following which they killed him, the SHO said.

“The duo had taken the body to Ajeetgarh for last rites. On getting the information, we asked the Ajeetgarh police to stop the cremation and take the body in their possession,” said the SHO.

Ashok Gupta, deputy commissioner of police, Jaipur West, said that the post mortem report confirmed injuries on Puranlal’s body. “We took the two sons in custody and upon interrogation they confessed to their crime. They were arrested thereafter on charges of murder and trying to eliminate evidence,” said Gupta.

Police said that a forensic team also visited the victim’s house and collected samples from the spot.
