Life has come a full circle in last one year

- Abhishek Paul abhishek.paul@htlive.com

Karun Nair has been going through a high this domestic season. He led Karnataka to Vijay Hazare Trophy title and was among the top run-getters in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy as well as the Ranji Trophy.

The 26-year-old batsman has carried that form into IPL 2018. Nair has held his own, with 173 runs in five innings. In an interview, Nair says his recent performances have helped him emerge stronger from the slump in form since becoming India’s only second triple centurion in Tests.

How do you analyse the high of that triple vs England and then your exit from national team?

HYDERABAD:

It’s been a roller coaster ride in the last one and half years. I have seen ups and downs. Life has come a full circle for me. I am mentally in a better place in the last one year. Things are going in the right direction. I am aiming to keep the momentum going and convert starts into good knocks.

Your comments after the initial round of matches?

It’s been a good start but it could have been better. Against RCB (out for 29), I could have played better and for longer time. I played the wrong shot at the wrong time. But as long as the team is winning I am happy.

You have so far scored one halfcentury, while in the other matches the starts were good but no 50 plus scores. It’s almost like 2017 for Delhi Daredevils?

Last year was a different season altogether. I am not looking back at what happened last year. It’s a new IPL. I have had a good start. There are many matches left. For now, my aim is to make full use of the time that I get in the middle.

You open for Karnataka in Mustaq Ali Trophy, but in KXIP you play in middleorder.

It’s obviously a different challenge. I want to play and do well in every position, so that I can prove I have ability to help my team in any situation. I am totally flexible. As long as I am scoring, I don’t think too much about my batting position.
