police have arrested the husband of the woman whose naked body was found from a room at Pragati Nagar area of Bhopal on Thursday, police said.

Police claimed the accused, Rajaram Mewada (45), a labourer and a resident of Ichhawar in Sehore district, has confessed to have committed the crime as he doubted his wife’s fidelity.

Rahul Kumar Lodha, superintendent of police, South Bhopal, said the victim was Mewada’s fourth wife. While his first wife died under mysterious circumstances after drowning, two others left him due to his rash behaviour. This was also the second marriage of his fourth wife. She was married to Mewada eight years ago and they had no child.

“In his confession, Mewada said his wife had an affair with his neighbour Bablu, a resident of Lalitpur Bablu Lodhi, who is also missing. Mewada asked his wife not to talk with Bablu and they had a fight over the issue many times. On the night of May 14, Mewada, who was drunk, saw his wife talking to Bablu and entered into an argument with her. Later, he smashed her head with a hammer and inserted beer bottles in her private parts,” said Lodha.

The detailed post-mortem report is awaited by the police.

Now, the police are also investigating the death of his first wife and have also launched a hunt to nab Bablu. “Due to his rash behaviour with his previous wives, the family took him to a sorcer but nothing happened. He is mentally unstable and the family has broken all relationships with him,” said Mewada’s brother Mukesh Mewada.
