Kin donate organs of brain dead man, four get new lease of life

Two persons got a new lease of life with kidneys transplant­s at the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital in Jaipur on Friday from a cadaver donor while the heart and the liver were sent to Delhi, doctors said.

Rajendra Singh, 42, a resident of Jhunjhunu’s Bajva village, was admitted to the trauma centre on May 15 with head injuries. He had fallen from the terrace of his house, said hospital superinten­dent Dr DS Meena.

Late on May 17, Singh was declared brain dead and after counsellin­g with his family members, it was decided to donate his organs, Meena said.

“While two kidneys were transplant­ed at the hospital on Friday, the heart was sent to the Maxx Hospital and the liver to the ILBS hospital in Delhi through a green corridor with the help of the Jaipur police.”

The SMS’s trauma centre chief Dr Jitendra Hingonia said after a three-member team of doctors declared Singh brain dead on Thursday evening, and the family members were counselled to donate the organs which they agreed and gave their consent.

It was the 11th cadaver organ donation in the hospital, said Hingonia, who is in-charge of keeping the donated organs live, safe and functionin­g.

The donated liver and the heart were sent to Delhi through the green corridor at 3 pm, Meena said.

One of the kidneys was transplant­ed to a male patient from Sikar district and who was suffering from serious kidney problem and had already undergone two transplant­s, said hospital spokespers­on Dr SS Yadav.

“He underwent a third kidney transplant and it was successful.”

The kidney transplant was a very complex operation, which was done by a team of doctors, including Dr Vinay Tomar, Dr SS Yadav, Dr Neeraj Agarwal from the urology department and Dr Dhananjay Agarwal, Dr Vinay Tomar, Dr Pankaj Beniwal from the nephrology department among others, Yadav said.
