Gaya gang rape video: Police claim accused identified
The police in Bihar’s Gaya district on Friday claimed to have identified the four men who gangraped a woman and also shot a video of the crime last week.
Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajeev Mishra said all the four accused were from Naubatpur in Patna district and had fled to Gujarat. The Gaya police has launched a massive hunt to arrest them, the SSP said.
The video showed four men laughing and sexually assaulting the woman even as she begged them to let her go. It was, however, not clear as to where and when the crime took place.
Police said it had not received any complaint or information, and acted on it after it received the video, which was already doing rounds on the social media, on WhatsApp on May 11.
Based on the language used by the men — which indicated Magadh region, comprising Gaya and other districts — the state police directed the Gaya SSP to register an FIR and launch a drive to arrest the accused.
The SSP subsequently constituted an SIT, which conducted raids across Patna and successfully identified the woman and the four men on Friday evening.
The SSP said the woman had recently married the man of her choice following the intervention of village panchayat. “As the newly-wed couple was on its way home, the four men abducted them, took them to an isolated place and gangraped the woman. One of the accused also made a video of the incident,” he said.
