Betul police on Wednesday lodged an FIR against a man who allegedly threatened to kill the district collector Shashank Mishra through a message posted on Facebook on Tuesday, said the police.

The man, identified as Nimish Sariyam, a resident of Betul, reportedly posted a message on Facebook saying if the collector did not ensure that ‘fake’ member of parliament (MP) from Betul Jyoti Dhruve was sent to jail and the right the seat was returned to to ‘genuine tribals’, he would kill the collector and himself within a month.

Dhruve’s caste certificate stating she was a tribal was scrapped by a high-level scrutiny committee of the Madhya Pradesh government on April 1, 2017. However, the committee later took up the matter for a review.

The committee was set up in 2016 at the direction of the MP high court. Late Ojha Ram Ivane of Congress, who had lost to Dhurve in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Betul parliamentary constituency which is reserved for scheduled tribes (STs), had filed a complaint against her. He had alleged that Dhurve didn’t belong to the Gond tribe.

According to the police, the accused made objectionable comments against Dhruve and union home minister Rajnath Singh.

Rajesh Sahu, town inspector of police at Kotwali police station said the FIR was lodged under section 66A of the Information Technology Act and sections 189 (threat of injury to public servant) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused is yet to be arrested.
