3 policemen among 4 injured in Jammu
JAMMU: THE STATION HOUSE OFFICER SAID THAT UNIDENTIFIED TERRORISTS HURLED A GRENADE FROM THE FLYOVER AND ESCAPED FROM THE SPOT
At least three policemen, including an officer and a civilian, were injured in a terror attack at Jammu Bus Stand here late on Thursday night.
The injured were identified as station house officer of Bus Stand police station, Rajesh Jasrotia, selection grade constable Israr Shah of Surankote in Poonch, special police officer Arjun Kumar, 33, of Shama Chak in Jammu, and a civilian, Jagdev Raj, 42, of Billawar in Kathua district.
Jasrotia said that unidentified terrorists probably hurled a grenade from the flyover around 10.45pm and escaped from the spot. An FIR has been lodged at the Jammu Bus Stand police station, he added. The injured have been shifted to government medical college and hospital here.
He said the grenade exploded near their police gypsy which was on a patrol on the BC Road.
“I, along with my driver and a constable, suffered splinter injuries, though minor in nature. A man was also injured in the attack,” he said.
The explosion shook the buildings in the vicinity and window panes of at five vehicles were smashed by shrapnel.
SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta said that the investigation has been taken up but there has been no clue so far of the attackers.
The attack comes amidst unilateral ceasefire announced by the home ministry on the insistence of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti. This has been second terror attack in Jammu City followed by Sunjuwan military station attack in which six soldiers and a civilian were killed in February this year.
”I was strolling on the BC road when I heard an explosion. A police gypsy was on patrol. Initially, I thought its tyre may have burst but then I heard others say it was a terror attack. People started running towards the bus stand to save themselves,” said Raj Kumar, a waiter at a hotel.
The terror attack in the heart of Jammu city not only exposed chinks in the security grid of the state police and other security forces and intelligence agencies but also the deteriorating law and order situation in Jammu region.
