UP on top as girls dominate as usual in CBSE class 12 exams
With UP girls Meghna Srivastava and Anoushka Chandra notching the first and second ranks respectively, students from the state dominated the CBSE Class 12 examinations, results of which were declared on Saturday.
Both Meghna and Anoushka are from the humanities stream, a CBSE official said. Moreover,
Srivastava, a student from the Humanities stream scored 499 marks, out of 500. She scored 99 in English (Core), 100 each in history, geography, psychology and economics.
Anoushka Chandra, also a student from Humanities stream, stood second with 498 marks. Seven students tied at the third position with 497 marks, and even among these, four are from UP — Supriya Kaushik of Noida, Nakul Gupta of Ghaziabad, Kshitij Anand of Ghaziabad and Ananya Singh of Meerut.
Ananya of Meerut Public Girls’ School topped the Allahabad region, securing 497 (99.4%) marks and sharing third place in the country with six other students on the merit list.
“It’s been a really thrilling experience. There is no secret and one has to work hard throughout the year,” Srivastava, a student of Noida’s Step by Step School, told reporters.
Srivastava is the niece of former CBI director Anil Sinha. “She has always been a very bright and studious girl. She has brought laurels to our family and we are proud of her,” Sinha said.
Girls did better than boys with a pass percentage of 88.31% against boys’ 78.99%, said CBSE officials, adding this year overall pass percentage was better than last year’s 82.02%. The overall pass percentage was 83.01%.
The best performing region was Trivandrum in Kerala with a pass percentage of 97.32% followed by Chennai region with 93.87%. Delhi was at the third spot with 89% pass percentage, the officials said. Overall, private schools have done better than the government ones.
The overall pass percentage of the Delhi region saw an increase from last year’s 88.37% .
