Medical student held for posting nude pictures of estranged fiancée

Kausar Ali, a medical student arrested for uploading nude photographs of his estranged fiancee on social media, was remanded in police custody by the Suri court in Bengal’s Birbhum district on Sunday.

The victim, a resident of Fakir Para area in Suri town, about 200km from Kolkata, lodged a complaint with the local police on Friday. She alleged that Ali, a resident of the same neighbourhood, had been repeatedly posting her photographs on social media, which were taken when the two were in a relationship.

The victim alleged that Ali started avoiding her soon after her family talked of getting the two married.

Since Ali is a student of a medical college in Bhubaneswar, the Suri police alerted several police stations. He was arrested from Burdwan town on Saturday night.

“Ali has been remanded in police custody. The cyber crime branch is investigating the matter,” said Ranjit Ganguly, the government pleader. The woman said, “Ali took some photographs a few months ago. I was shocked to see these photos on his social media page. I pleaded with him but he kept posting.”

“He said he would never leave me and made me pose in the nude. I trusted him. I never imagined that he could make those photos public,” she added.
