Girls repeat success saga, but pass percentage dips

This year, too, girls outshone boys with a pass percentage of 94.62 in class 10. The Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the results on Tuesday. The pass percentage for boys was 90.06.
The overall pass percentage was 91.85, a decline of 1.45 per cent from previous year’s 93.30 per cent.
This was the first batch to appear for the class 10 board examinations after the CBSE decided to replace the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) and reintroduce the board exams. In 2009, the board had introduced a Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA) grade-based evaluation and provided a choice to students to appear either for the board exam or take the school exam.
In Ajmer region, 181318 students registered for the examination out of which 180871 appeared for the exam. And 166143 students passed it.

schools falling in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Rajasthan.
The pass percentage among general category students remained at 92.17 followed by SC (90.26) and ST (87.56) per cent.
Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya achieved the best result with 97.42 per cent as the overall pass percentage followed by Kendriya Vidalayas (95.49), government schools (90.36) and private schools (91.30).
Over 16 lakh students had appeared for the Class 10 CBSE exams in the country this year.
The overall pass percentage in the Class 10 board examinations was 86.70, the CBSE said.
Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai and Ajmer emerged as top three regions pass percentagewise, scoring 99.60, 97.37 and 91.86, respectively.
