No phone, no social media for Jaipur’s topper Yana Gupta
Unlike students of her age, who are addicted to social media, Yana Gupta didn’t like having a mobile phone. She doesn’t even have any social media accounts. The student of Jayshree Periwal High School, who has scored the highest in Jaipur (98.8%) in the Central Board of Secondary Education class 10 exam, said that she stayed away from social media as she isn’t interested in it.
Gupta got 100 in mathematics, science, social science and Sanskrit, and 94 in English.
Her father, Pankaj Gupta, an Indian Forest Service officer, said he has forcefully given her a mobile phone now after she enrolled for a coaching class for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). “We want to be in touch with her if she is late in school or coaching,” he said.
Yana said that she wants to become a Supreme Court judge after getting into a premier law college.
“I studied for four hours after school, and that, I feel, is enough if you are regular,” she said. “I don’t have an account on any of the social media platforms.”
Her teachers said they expected her to score the highest in school as she had scored 98% in the pre-board exams. Yana’s mother, Pratibha, is a homemaker, and she has a younger brother who is in Class 4.
Jayshree Periwal High School chairperson Dr Jayshree Periwal said 135 students have scored above 90% and applauded the students for their remarkable feat.
Arushi Goyal of India International School scored 97.8%. School’s director Dr Ashok Gupta and the principal Mala Agnihotri are thrilled with the performance of their students. Fifty-five students of the school have scored 90% and above, they said.
“I expected a good score as I did well in my exams, but never dreamt of scoring 97.8% and becoming a school topper. I am really grateful to all the people who made this possible. Hard work surely pays off,” said Goyal.
Meenal Gupta of Subodh Public School has scored 97.2%. Apart from Meenal, 26 students have scored 90% and above said school’s assistant vice principal Dr Sanjay Parashar.
JAIPUR:
