MUMBAI: PALWAL/FARIDABAD:

The Indian Navy has completed “service life extension refit” of a 32-year-old ship of the Mauritius Coast Guard. The sixmonth-long overhaul of the Mauritius Coast Guard Ship (MCGS) Guardian here was undertaken in furtherance of the Indian Navy’s diplomatic outreach, the Western Naval Command (WNC) said in an official statement today. The ‘service life extension refit’ of the 32-year-old ship started on December 1, 2017 at Naval Dockyard and ensured timely completion of its hull, engineering, electrical and weapon work package, it said. MCGS Guardian, after successfully completing all the mandated trials, is set to return to Mauritius “as good as new”, the NWC official statement said.

A five-yearold girl was kidnapped, raped and stabbed to death allegedly by a man who used to work at her father’s tent house in Asaoti village in Haryana’s Palwal district. The accused, identified as Virender alias Bholu, allegedly committed the heinous act on Thursday night over some old enmity with the girl’s father. “Virender was arrested and remanded to a three-day police custody on Saturday. He is being interrogated,” SP, Palwal, Waseem Akram said. Virender used to work at the tent house owned by the girl’s father. They had a heated argument over some issue earlier. In order to vent his anger, the accused abducted the girl, police said.
