: Thane crime branch on Monday recorded the statement of Shamas Siddiqui, brother of Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, in connection with the Call Data Records (CDR) scam and said Shamas had asked for the CDR of Nawazuddin’s wife from advocate Rizwan Siddhiqui.

Shamas, who reached Thane crime branch around 11.30am, was questioned for about 9 hours. He has been asked to come on Tuesday too, for questioning.

Nitin Thakare, senior police inspector from Thane crime branch, said , “We are questioning and have recorded his statement. We found that Shamas had asked Rizwan for Nawazuddin’s wife’s CDR. We are verifying the statements. After that, we will take legal action”.

Thane crime branch last month recorded the statements of Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff’s wife, Ayesha Shroff and actor Udita Goswami in the scam. An officer from Thane crime branch said, “Shamas has shared a few names with us and we are probing to get details about their involvement”.

The case came to light in January when Thane crime branch arrested four private detectives for illegally selling CDRs. They used to allegedly sell the data for anywhere between ₹25,000 and ₹50,000. A total of 16 people have been arrested in the scam, including well-known detective Rajani Pandit and lawyer Rizwan Siddhiqui, who were later released on bail.
