CORRUPTION IN NAME OF MAKING JAIPUR SMART CITY: CONGRESS
Jaipur district Congress president Pratap Singh Khachariyawas on Friday alleged corruption in the name of making Jaipur a smart city.
After interacting with residents and traders of Kishanpole in the walled city, Khachariyawas said a provision of Rs 2,600 crore has been made for the smart city project and till date Rs 150 crore has been spent and projects worth Rs 550 crore are in progress.
“But in the name of smart city, Jaipur’s heritage is being compromised with substandard work. There is no logic behind laying of drainage lines in middle (of the roads); water and electricity lines are already laid on both sides of roads in Kishanpole, but despite that the road size is being reduced, footpath is being increased and substandard material is being used in the construction work. All this shows that officials and leaders have done it for commission,” he alleged. The congress leader said that Rs 2,600 crore proposed for the project could have been used to set up new Jaipur.
He said that the traders claimed that they lost business in the name of smart city; roads have been narrowed, so much so that even an ambulance cannot pass. “Since last four years there were jams because of metro project, now due to drainage line,” he added.
Khachariyawas assured the traders that the issue will be taken up with the government and if not resolved the Congress will protest the move.
On Thursday, targeting Congress general secretary and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, parliamentary affairs minister Rajendra Rathore had said that Gehlot had fooled the people of the state during his tenure and his dream of returning to power would not be fulfilled.
He said Gehlot and state congress chief Sachin Pilot both are having the dream of getting into power, but people have rejected the Congress and their dream would remain a dream.
“Gehlot knows very well how to fool public. He did nothing in four years and when elections were approaching in 2013, he tempted people with saari, blankets, cycles, free medicines, laptop and even cash but people neglected them in 2013-Assembly elections and now the Congress party has been neglected totally,” Rathore said.
The minister said that the party’s central leadership removed him from Rajasthan politics and shifted to Delhi as “Bada Baabu” and now he is busy releasing statements from Delhi.
He said that chief minister Vasundhara Raje is spending 18 hours a day among public and government works and the state is moving ahead under her leadership.Rathore said that the state government took several decisions and programmes were launched for the development of the state.
