After Rahul, MP CM to address farmers, offer them incentives
The war over wooing farmers ahead of assembly elections intensified again.
Three days after Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s farmers convention in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will address a farmers’ convention in Jabalpur on June 10 during which he will transfer the incentive amount of ₹265 per quintal on procurement of agriculture produce to farmers’ bank accounts, as per agriculture department of the state.
While Chouhan will attend the convention in Jabalpur, similar ones will be held the same day in other districts to be attended by ministers and other public representatives besides collectors. Block level farmers’ conventions too are likely to be held on the day at more than 300 block headquarters.
Chouhan’s address in Jabalpur, beginning 1pm, will be telecast to farmers on LED screens in other district conventions.
Each collector, except that of Jabalpur where a bigger gathering for the CM’s programme is expected, has been officially instructed to ensure gathering of at least 10,000 farmers in nonJabalpur conventions.
A letter dated June 7 and sent by the farmer welfare and agriculture development department says that Chouhan is to transfer the amount of incentive to farmers’ bank accounts in a ‘Kisan mahasammelan’ in Jabalpur on June 10, at ₹265 per quintal on procurement of wheat from farmers during the Rabi season 2017-18.
The letter further says in all the 50 districts, except Jabalpur, conventions will begin at 11am in which participation of at least 10,000 farmers and public representatives should be ensured. Ministers and other public representatives will take part in the conventions.
