Sunil Kumar Meena from Nagalmina village in Rajasthan has once again proved the old saying ‘if there is a will, there is a way’. Sunil, whose parents are MGNREGA labourers, have braved all odds and secured 245 marks bagging AIR-4 in ST category and AIR-347 in general category in JEE Advanced examination.

Sunil’s father, Shivram Meena, a farmer by occupation, said that every year, he needed a loan of one or two lakhs for the education of his children. He has three sons and a daughter. One of his sons and daughter is pursuing B Tech and another son his pursuing B Sc. When Sunil went to Kota to prepare for JEE, his father had to mortgage his land to support his son’s education. Although Sunil got a concession of 85% in the fees in Allen Career Institute, Shivram had to struggle to make ends meet.

Sunil said that Nagalmina village is a habitation of 150 houses and has a population of 600. Even now, food is cooked in mud stoves and people in this village live in mud houses. Sunil studied in a government school till Class 8 and after that he went to a private school five kilometres away from home. He secured 94.50% in 10th and 97.40% in the 12th standard.

KOTA::

He scored full marks in Physics, chemistry and mathematics.

He appeared for IIT JEE exam with his 12th boards last year but did not bag a good rank. So the principal of his school advised him to go to Kota and prepare for the next year. Sunil will be the only person in Jhotwara Post panchayat to study in IIT.

Sunil said, “I got the best faculty in Allen and a scope to study with talented students from all over the country.”

Sunil, who wants to go for administrative services after engineering, aspires to study in IIT Mumbai or Delhi in the field of computer science or mechanical engineering. He wants to help talented students who are deprived of opportunities.

“Students like him are empowering our nation and taking our country ahead. They are establishing a new benchmark. We are proud of him,” said Naveen Maheshwari, director of Allen Career Institute.
