RETIRED ROADWAYS EMPLOYEES STAGE SITIN
A large number of retired roadways employees, along with their family members staged sit-in protest outside the roadways headquarters in Jaipur, on the call of Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) Retired Employees Association, demanding to pay retirement benefits immediately on Thursday. In the meeting, a resolution was passed by roadways employees union to take out a state level rally in Jaipur on July 5 and statewide strike of roadways on July 25-26.
The retired employees and their family were seen hurling slogans and carrying red flags and placards.
Addressing their meeting, All India Trade Union Congress state president ML Yadav condemned the state government for neglecting the retired roadways employees.
He said that even after an agreement with the state government on September 14, 2017, it did not pay ₹140 crore, which in turn is creating a problem in paying the retirement benefits.
Yadav demanded the government to immediately provide ₹600 crore to the roadways so that all retired employees till May 2018 can be paid the retirement benefits along with interest.
RSRTC Association general secretary Hargovind Sharma, alleging the government and roadways management for being insensitive towards retired employees, said that for more than four years, no transparent and policy has been made for paying retirement benefits, which is a proof of directionless government.
He said that the roadways paid retirement benefits to some of the employees with interest while many were paid only the benefits, that too, very late.
