Discontinue guard of honour: Guv to govt
Setting a new trend, Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh has told the state government that henceforth he will not inspect any guard of honour.
In a letter to the state government, Singh said the guard of honour protocol should be ended for him. He wrote to the home department on January 1, 2018 asking if the tradition of guard of honour given to him on arrival and departure from Raj Bhavan and during his visits to the districts could be ended.
He sought the home department’s view in this regard.
The governor took the lead to end the guard of honour during his Jodhpur visit from June 9 to 11 where he did not inspect the guard of honour.
The home department in its reply to the governor sent on May 11, 2018 said that as per the wishes of the governor, the tradition of giving the guard of honour can be ended.
After the department’s reply, governor Singh gave his consent on June 13 to end the guard of honour. A letter in this regard
JAIPUR:
has been sent on June 14 to the government apprising the government of the governor’s decision. From now on, the governor will not be given a guard of honour on departure or arrival from the Raj Bhawan or during visits to the districts.
Singh has taken other initiatives in the state too to improve the education system. It was at his initiative that lakhs of degrees of university students that were pending since several years were distributed. He also got convocations done on a regular basis in state universities.
