Fed up with activities of leaders, six active cadres of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) surrendered before the police here on Thursday.
The cadres aged between 24 and 35 years also handed over a number of sophisticated arms and ammunitions.
“The cadres say they were fed up with activities of their leaders like kidnappings of indigenous workers of tea gardens and destroying the tea industry,” DGP Kuladhar Saikia told media persons.
“Difficulties faced by them in their camps in Myanmar and scant regard of the group’s leaders to resolve their problems were also reasons behind their decision to quit the outfit,” he added.
Saikia informed that inability of the cadres to visit their homes in Assam due to sustained presence of security forces along the international border added to their resolve to surrender.
The surrendered cadres are Pranab Gogoi, Apurba Moran, Satyajit Moran, Jushu Doley, Rituraj Moran and Abhijit Gohain. The arms handed over by them include 3 rifles—1 AK-56, 1 MQ81 and 1 HK 33—several grenades, explosives and ammunition.
