The Jaipur police on Monday arrested six men while they were planning to carry out a big heist. All the six men have a history of criminal cases against them, officials said.

The arrested accused have identified as Alex Joseph, Mahesh Singh alias Thakur, Bunty Bairwa, Naresh Bairwa , Ravi Prajapat , and Manraj alias Monu . All of them have serious criminal charges against them, they said.

Addressing a press conference, DCP Jaipur West, Ashok Gupta said two country-made pistols, four live cartridges, a small sword, steel pipe, a car, a motor cycle and a rope were recovered from their possession.

“A special team was formed to solve the cases of rising incidents of theft, chain-snatching, loot etc in the city. We received intelligence inputs about five people in a car and two on a motor cycle moving suspiciously near the Thikiriya Toll Plaza close to Manipal University,” said Gupta.

Acting on the information, a special team was formed and sent to investigate. Four people in a car and two on a bike were standing on the eastern side of the road a few kilometers away from the Toll Plaza, he said.

Seeing the policemen, the accused tried to run away from the spot but were nabbed.

During preliminary investigation, one of the accused confessed that they were planning a big loot as admission season is going on in the Manipal University and many people come here for admissions,” said Gupta.

The prime accused Alex Joseph is a habitual offender and almost a dozen cases are registered against him, including of murder, at various police stations. Another accused Mahesh Singh has cases of thefts and robbery against him. HTC
